Starting KDE3

1. Edit a file named .Xclients at $HOME like this:
export QTDIR=/usr/lib/qt-3.0.3
export KDEHOME=/home/pierre/.kde3
export KDEDIR=/usr
export PATH=$KDEDIR/bin:$PATH
export PREFERRED=$KDEDIR/bin/startkde
exec $PREFERRED
(bear in mind your current settings :-)

2. Change perm. to execute it: chmod +x .Xclients

3. Change the kernel init loading level at /etc/inittab to "full multiuser" 
mode (3 in red hat, bear in mind your current settings :-)

4. Reboot and have fun!

I noticed that once kde3 is initialized you can turn bacl your init mode to 
X11
