KDE 3.0.0 compiled against XFree 4.2.0: kwin segfaults. Strace included.

Everything is under /usr/app/xxx-N.N.N (kde2,kde3,qt,gcc,etc etc etc)
with bin/*, lib/*, include/*, man/* etc symlinked into
usual places (/usr/bin etc). This is done semi-automagically,
helps keep my system clean and well separated into distinct
application packages. I use this method for years.

I have renamed all kde/qt related config files out of the way before 
installing kde/qt.

Anyway, I suspect missing config files cannot explain kwin death.

I hope to hear from developers who can grok what had happened
looking at strace or from people who already tried XFree 4.2+KDE 3
and maybe had similar problems.
