well i tried to install kde3 on my redhat box and it didn't work. so i'm
posting my not-so-impressive progress here in hopes of someone enlightening
me:
acording the readme file, i'm supposed to do this in the dir that i
downloaded all the rpms to:
cd /where/you/downloaded/the/KDE3/RPMS
rpm -e `rpm -qa |egrep ^kde`
rpm -Uvh *rpm
what exactly does this mean?
anyway, this is what happened when i typed rpm -e `rpm -qa |egrep ^kde`:
[root at hephaestus kde]# rpm -e `rpm -qa |egrep ^kde`
error: removing these packages would break dependencies:
libDCOP.so.1 is needed by kdbg-1.2.1-5
libkdecore.so.3 is needed by kdbg-1.2.1-5
libkdesu.so.1 is needed by kdbg-1.2.1-5
libkdeui.so.3 is needed by kdbg-1.2.1-5
libkfile.so.3 is needed by kdbg-1.2.1-5
libkio.so.3 is needed by kdbg-1.2.1-5
libkssl.so.2 is needed by kdbg-1.2.1-5
libksycoca.so.3 is needed by kdbg-1.2.1-5
knowing full well that that didn't work, i thought "what the hell" and did
the next step anyway. this of course didn't work either but did spew out
the following:
[root at hephaestus kde]# rpm -Uvh *rpm
error: failed dependencies:

what is all this?
and how do i fix it?
what did i do wrong?
here's what i'm using
pentium 125mhz
128mb ram
redhat 7.2
