'Ello!
When it comes to the content of the KDE.org homepage, I'm not 100% sure
what will be on the revised version... I have my own vision for what needs
to be on there, but I'll want approval before doing anything in case my
ideas are disagreeable. I do want to shed some of the less focused elements
(like forum posts), combine others, etc. I would like to present a combined
news/announcement ticker and keep the Planet ticker on the homepage though;
I personally would give them full-width treatment and possibly excerpts,
placed just above the patrons. I'm not a super-fan of that sidebar - if
something is worth being on the homepage, it has to be worth being done
right. I like the news/blog posts because it's relevant, from respected
figures, up-to-date, and not random garble like the 5 most recent forum
posts. :P
Right now I'm working on modular pieces which will form the header,
sub-header, footer, copyright, a couple recyclables, etc. Things which can
be inserted into existing pages to at least begin making things more
consistent. I haven't had the time I'd like to work on them, but I've
recently put some personal projects on hold which will clear up my schedule
a bit so I have more than an hour or two a week to actually nail this stuff
down. The modular pieces are drop-in for any *remotely* sane skinnable
system, and they'll pull extended content from a designated source
(probably cdn.kde.org, or something like it) with minimal boilerplate.
Once I have the modular parts all together I'll be putting together a few
static pages showing everything in action, mostly for high-profile pages
which themselves are mostly static - such as the Plasma Desktop page. If it
all looks and works well, I'll slap together a porting guide (using the
modular pages) and see if we can start by unifying the KDE.org primary
navigation wherever possible. We'll also start committing centralised parts
to the CDN. We can focus on content later, but I think getting from A to B
will be an important first step. While we start adding the modular
components to existing pages, we'll populate the navigation while examining
our link rot issue, and decide what will be linked in the main nav.
I hope that's what you were looking for. ;)
Cheers;
