hand I can imagine that Xandros' code actually isn't forked but just
improvements for outdated code (2.2.x) which isn't needed in 3.x anymore and thus
doesn't get much attention...?
You see, not being a developer myself I'm not really (ok, not at all) in the
position to comment on those cases and rather prefer to CC this mail to one
of the usual main development mainlinglists (kde-devel or kde-core-devel?)
for getting more input (done now, sorry for the spam).

Also "x ships with x based on KDE x" in the title alone might not be clear
enough. Adding a fine print saying something like "This distribution uses a
custom build of KDE. For support and bug reports please contact this
distribution and refrain from contacting the KDE community for those purposes." would
be enough imo. Such a fine print makes clear who's responsible for the code
and channels respective responses in the correct direction.
