Revised proposal below, now mentions the requirement to have the font(s)
used and that the text used on the image is to be kept to just "K
Desktop Environment" to be friendly to i18n. I also kept the option of
using Photoshop in as Lauri confirmed my concerns of leavig out too many
artists by insisting on The Gimp only. Please give any feedback you have
as I would like to get this out there by the weekend.
Competition to design new KDE.org website logo
The KDE Web Team would like to announce a new competition to design a
logo for the KDE.org website to complement the new site design, the
competition will run for just over a month with entries closing on 30th
April 2003. The prize for the competition will be the honour of having
your work displayed on KDE.org and it's subdomains, with full credit
given for each use of the image.
The only requirements for the contents of the image are as follows:
- It contains a variation of the KDE gear
(http://www.kde.org/stuff/images/kdelogo_svg.png or
http://static.kdenews.org/dot.kde.org/TopicImages/official.gif).
- The text be limited to "K Desktop Environment" or KDE as it is
envisioned the image will be used on sites with languages other than
English
The image itself should be no more than 400 by 80 pixels (?) in size and
be in PNG format. The logo should also be able to be easily customised
for each of the KDE.org subdomains such as Usability and PIM so it is a
requirement that the source file also be available, it would be
preferrable if this was in Gimp's .XCF format but Photoshop's .PSD will
also be acceptable, any fonts used for the image will also need to be
made available.
The image will need to be licensed under one of the following licenses
GNU General Public License, GNU Free Documentation License, The Design
Science License or The Free Art License detailed at the following link
http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/license-list.html#OtherLicenses.
To enter the competition please email your image in PNG format (under
40kb please) to webmaster at kde.org, then once the competition has closed
the KDE Web Team will review all entries making a shortlist of the best
entries received. The author's of the shortlisted entries will then be
asked to provide the source image file and fonts used for their design
and the shortlist will then be used to form a poll that will be open to
the public and run over the course of 2 weeks (?). The winner of the
competition will be announced here on dot.kde.org and of course notified
by email with their work displayed as the new logo for KDE.org.
If you have any queries about the competition please email
webmaster at kde.org.
Regards,
