    You may want to consider using `string(REPLACE)` to escape double-quote chars in `${_original_uri}`, like
    
        string(REPLACE "\"" "\\"" escaped_uri "${${_original_uri}}")
    
    and then use `${escaped_uri}` in the perl script.
