problem installing kde windows

PROBLEM SOLVED

The cause of the problem is that not all the sites in the mirrors list
have all the needed software. However, buried in the installation
instructions on the KDE for windows site, there is a reference to a
URL with 'winkler' in it as a mirror of last resort. I tried it and it
worked. I'm sorry I can't give the exact URL which I used. I got that
with a google search which I am now unable to duplicate to get back to
the searched-for item. Perhaps the URL list shown by the installer
will have an item with 'winkler' in it. If so, that's it I suspect.

I wanted KDE on windows to get kturtle running. (Why any reasonable
person would want to get anything running under ms windows when you've
already go it on Linux, is another story.) I got it running and it's
superb. Hands down the best implementation I've seen for coaching a
learner in their first steps towards programming skills. Once again,
KDE wins for great application design. The installation process tho' I
found disappointing, tho' well worth the required patience. Also, on
the topic of patience, it took a significant amount of googling to
find that kturtle is in the kdeedu collection of education apps. And
while we're at it, why do KDE and most other sites offering a big
selection of goodies have their own search engines? I frequently have
the experience that even sites like Amazon will return a "not found"
for a search item, while Google is sitting there with a link to the
item.
