For Windows CE we added an in-process SMTP mode (should be a CMake switch in 
kdepimlibs IIRC) that by-passes KIO. It's not as efficient for mass sending 
though (no pipelining of multiple message to the same server etc). Might help 
to isolate the problem in either SMTP or KIO though.
