In the KDE-fileopen dialog just go to the end of path (right at the top 
of the window), click on the small black vertical bar behind the path 
and then you can use pathes in the form: D:/kderoot/ or D:\kderoot.
In dolphin and konqueror you can use file://d:/kderoot/ if the above 
does not work.
