Sort of, the problem is with people without avatars. Suppose you have 100 contacts and 30 have no avatars, you'd see just a bunch of generic icons. Solution could be autogenerating avatars from name/other info (as on N9), we discussed it here -- https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=301354 -- maybe I'll get around to implement it as well.
