I have switched to haze, too. Took me a while to figure out how to set it up,
since telepathy-accounts-kcm-plugins hadn't installed the plugins to configure
it, so I had to install Empathy to setup the accounts.

I haven't had the chance to test it extensively yet, but the issue I was having
appears to be gone. Haze has other problems though (undeliverable message
errors, avatars not always loading, can't change nickname/personal message).
