Ok, there should definitely be a default sound set.

As for whether it should be on by default - that's a matter of opinion. You say
yes, I say no. 

I'm happy to be proved wrong by popular vote, but I'm not going to change it
based on just yours. I'll bring it up in our next meeting - or if you want, ask
on our mailing list and see what the general response is.

I'm sure we can reach some compromise (maybe default for incoming chats, but
not each message)
