I tried with the version you proposed (from opensuse branches). It does not
crash but it break the functionality on the tumbleweed I have. It accepts the
password but after that ktelepathy is not going online and you are not asked in
a brand new user the wallet password. So wallet does in my case not seem to
recognize that it is needed. 
For me it does not work, sorry. Don't know in Ubuntu.
