It appears that it does autoscroll, sorry for the noise. 
The why : my mouse is slightly broken, so every scroll down scrolls a tiny bit
back at the end up so the window was slightly "not at end", thus disabling
autoscroll (if I understood the QML code correctly).

Changing this to a "feature request" about autoscrolling : Autoscroll down at
every outgoing message.
