See comment #15. It explains the state well.
We have tried it but it turns out making it open automatically sucks. We're not
going to add something that sucks based on the opinions of people who haven't
tried using it.

Clearly we need to improve some other things (maybe show a StatusNotifierItem
on all unread messages?) in order to achieve this properly, but I don't know
what.
