Martin, thanks for the debugging on that. 
I really don't understand what's going on.

The kded module doesn't get involved during login. It does try to change
presence on bootup, but that's about it.

I can't reproduce it here, which isn't helpful :(

Would it be possible to get a log output from bustle or dbus-monitor? Note
these logs may contain your passwords if authentication gets that far.
