Before you actually kill gabble, make sure you are offline. Then start gabble
and only after that connect. You can also use ktp-debugger if you're on 0.5.2,
that gives you gabble log instantly as well as mission-control.

As for your guess - might be possible, but I'm sorry to say we're as much in
dark as you are with this, as this is not our level of things we work on. You
might get better assistance from the Telepathy folks though, either at
#telepathy on freenode or bugs.freedesktop.org. Let us know if you learn
anything new.
