Dear Developers of Simon
I am a retired Biomedical devices engineer who has been involved in development of implantable devices over the last 40 years.
With a basic degree in Electronics, I have always had interest in computers and programming — and have worked on data acquisition systems for a few of the PC based test systems that I set up. I did some good bit of programming using Microsoft Qbasic — way back in early 1990s and have learnt some basics of C++. Started on Java — but did not progress.
Having retired with time on my hands now, I am looking to do something creative work.
One of the problems I constantly see is the time spent by medical doctors’s in small clinics here in writing drug Prescriptions and treatment advice — and in most cases their handwriting is bad, is illegible and difficult to decipher — but many doctors in India work late as demand for their services is still large from our huge population.
Doctors in rural areas and small towns generally have a home practice or set up two room clinic (waiting area and doctor’s office) — with one help to do the running around for them.
I was wondering if a Dictation type software on a small PC linked to a printer (which have become very inexpensive here in India) could help these Doctor’s print out their prescriptions quickly - save time and make it more readable for their patients.
While doing my homework on speech recognition, I came across your Website — and your demo is definitely very encouraging for a beginner like me.
I am presently using an Apple Macbook air — but also have a very old HP laptop on Win 7 32 bit — which is slow — but could still be used probably.
If this project gets really going, I am willing to invest in more suitable hardware for building a demo prototype.
Would greatly appreciate your advice and inputs on how to get started — and what programming language i need to learn, to get going on this project using Simon.
i know this is going to be challenging — but that is what I probably need to make my life interesting now !!
looking forward
warm regards
bhuvanesh
