[kde-solaris] [preannouncement] KDE 3.3.1 Solaris 8/9 SPARC Forte build

Hi.

I now have CVS write access at KDE. But i have to be very careful
about checking in patches, because many of them would break binary
compatibility. I will probably be able to check in most of the
Solaris patches during the lull between the last 3.3.* release and
3.4 (or 4). Until then i have to be very restrained. :-)

I am using Forte 9 (since 3.3, before that i was using Forte 8).

On average, i see a performance bump of about 30% when building with
Forte vs. GCC -- just about the performance specs published by Sun
about Forte vs. GCC. I don't think one can beat the Sun engineers
when it comes to UltraSPARC optimizations (and compiler design as
well, but that's a whole another topic alltogether and it's rife with
flamewar material, so i will stop here :-).

If you're interested in the Forte compiler flags i use, i uploaded
everything about that stuff (shell scripts, environment variables) in
the 3.3.0 release (in the Solaris/9/PATCHES subdirectory).

I thought your Tyler patches were in the source tree already ? If they
are not, please sent them to me -- i will apply them.

The KDE packages install under /opt/kde-<release>.<major>.<minor>
(i.e. this release will be /opt/kde-3.3.1).
QT installs under /opt/qt-<release>.<major>.<minor>-32
(i.e. /opt/qt-3.3.3-32).
The additional required libraries (about 130+ of them) install under
/opt/fsw4sun/<lots-of-stuff> -- everything built with Forte (8 and
9).
