All,

Further to my email below, I have monitored the sub process started by konqueror (in file manager mode) using truss, it's output is below.

On a side issue - is there a means of getting the actual process name since all the entries shown by ptree all have kdeinit --suicide !!

Richard

Subject: [kde-solaris] KDE 3.1 freezes
Reply-To: kde-solaris@mail.kde.org

All,

System: Ultra 10, Solaris 8 (108528-16)

I have built KDE3.1 using gcc 3.2.1 (sun ld) + gmake 3.80 from source. QT 3.1.1 applications run completely fine, and kdelibs and kdebase compiled with little incident (although there were some problems with rules to make .h from .ui and the odd dcopidl processing for some reason!) manually running gmake <appropriate target> got things going again...

However. When initialising KDE, the kpslash gets to the style and then freezes for ages before dying. Also, if I manage to get the system up, I have to kill off the occasional sub-process. For example, konqueror in file manager mode displaying my home account freezes until I kill it's sub-process (kio process I think) and it will then display the directory structure and work fine from then onwards.

Note, that in web mode, konqeuror is brilliant, and lightening fast!

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this might be happening - I have previously compiled many versions of KDE all working perfectly!

I don't want to have to go back to CDE!!

Richard
