The Software Companion CD shipped with KDE 1.x and then later on KDE 2.x (2.2.1?). It is quite possible that an older version of Qt is in your library path (or KDE executables). Do an ldd on e.g. kwin or kdeinit and see what comes up. I usually make sure I do not install KDE off those CDs these days to avoid any conflicts.
