Hi GSoC Mentors and Org Admins,
We are thrilled to announce that the Google Summer of Code team is coming
to India this July! We are inviting past and present GSoC participants to
join us for the first-ever GSoC Alumni CAMPs (all day unconference events)!
These events offer a unique, on-site opportunity to connect, exchange
ideas, and help our community thrive while strengthening the open-source
ecosystem. These are not the typical dinner meetups we have had at other
locations in the past, but instead day-long mini unconferences.

FAQ
What is a GSoC Alumni Camp Unconference?
Modeled after our successful annual Mentor Summit, these events will use an
unconference <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unconference> format.
An unconference means there is no fixed agenda ahead of time—attendees
collaborate on-site to build the schedule themselves. Because time is
limited, we will request some session ideas late in June and pre-populate
part of the schedule with the most popular topics.
Likely session themes include:
-
Community Growth: Best practices for scaling open-source communities.
-
Maintainer Sustainability: Open discussions on tackling burnout and
managing project health.
-
AI and Open Source: Navigating AI contributions, best tools, and
teaching AI practices to new developers.
-
Specialized Tracks: Exploring the intersection of science and OSS.
-
The Future of GSoC: Brainstorming ways to continuously evolve and
improve the program.
Why Should You Attend?
This is a rare opportunity to meet open source enthusiasts representing
over 125 diverse communities. You will get to network with developers
across the entire lifecycle—from those just starting out to industry
veterans with 25+ years of experience.
You’ve been asking when we would come back to India for over a decade. We
are incredibly excited to tap into the massive open source energy in the
region and see what amazing collaborations come out of these camps!
What happens after I fill out the interest form?
1.
After June 10th 2301UTC Google Admins will randomly select 200 people
for each location.
2.
Google Admins will then verify the selected attendees are GSoC alumni
3.
Around June 16 Google Admins will email an invitation to the attendees
with a link for the official registration form with a few more details so
they can make their decision if they wish to attend the event.
4.
Invited attendees will complete the registration form by June 22 1800
UTC for Bengaluru, and June 24 1800 UTC for Delhi
5.
A confirmation email with many additional details will be sent to
confirmed attendees.
6.
If invited guests miss registering by the indicated deadlines we will
then invite people from the waitlist to take those spots and we’ll start
the process over with these folks.
7.
In the weeks leading up to the GSoC CAMPs Google Admins will send
additional details about lightning talks and what to expect.
Don't miss out on submitting your interest form
<https://forms.gle/TqBcWNW7E7zgRZo27> before June 10th at 2300 UTC.
We have the info in this email and some Frequently Asked Questions about
