Hi Pramiti,
GSoC and Season of KDE are a bit different. GSoC is aimed towards
students who need a summer job, and want to work in FOSS rather than
another job ("flipping bits instead of burgers").
Season of KDE is aimed towards people who want to accomplish a
project, need mentoring and want a certificate and Tshirt (and public
credit, of course!), but do not need to be paid. We don't kick off SoK
until GSoC is going smoothly, and the deadlines are correspondingly
later. Usually it runs for four months or so, depending on the plans
of those who propose and are accepted to participate.
Fixing bugs, submitting patches, and getting to know your team of
choice are all good techniques to find mentors and get your proposal
accepted. We advocate doing these things to both GSoC and SoK
participants.
