Dear SoK-Students of 2011,
I hope you all like the Season of KDE (SoK) 2011 so far and you are
making good progress with your coding projects. My name is Andreas
Schilling; I am a research assistant at the chair of Information Systems
and Services at the University of Bamberg. In my research, I analyze
factors that are important for open-source developers' code
contributions. Together with Lydia Pintscher, I am currently examining
factors that are especially relevant for new contributors to KDE.
Undoubtedly, the best way to find out about these factors is to ask you.
Therefore, I would like to ask all of you to answer the questionnaire
linked below. It is only 4 pages long and I promise it won't take more
than 10 minutes to answer it. The questions cover your motivation to
contribute, the experiences you have made so far and your preliminary
conclusions. I would be very thankful if you could answer the
questionnaire until July 22th.
All questions are designed to be answered anonymously. However, at the
beginning you are asked for your identity.kde.org username. This is
necessary because the questionnaire is publicly accessible, so that I
have to ensure that only responds from participants of this years'
Season of KDE are considered. Lydia has already sent me a list of valid
usernames of this year’s SoK students; thus, I assure you that none of
your personal answers will ever be given to anyone at KDE or to any
other party. Hence, I guarantee you that the answers you provide will
have no effect on your mentoring or on your continued participation at
SoK and KDE.
You find the questionnaire under this link:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dHktS0d4YWVXdW1vU1UzVU00dTBOSHc6MA
I will publish the aggregated results of this survey as soon as I've
finished my research on Lydia's blog, so that you can have a look at the
findings.
Finally, I wish all of you lots of success for your programming projects.
Thank you very much in advance
Andreas
