if it was only the latter, then we could just re-import the sources from
scratch. ;)
the rule should be historical accuracy unless it doesn't add value
(e.g., i'm all for filter-branching the freshly converted repos to chuck
out files that should have never been added in the first place, like
build artifacts of all kinds, personal vcs experiments (voluntary or
not), misplaced documentation/translation/multimedia, etc.).
