that sounds icky :/
when I was in a situation like that, I tested my patches on the kde-qt I'd 
already compiled, then made a diff file and applied that to my ancient clone and 
just pushed those little changes. I didn't actually *use* my qt clone for 
anything other than sending patches; the code I actually compiled was kde-
qt.git

then again, it was a really simple patch. and I've no idea what will happen 
when someday (hopefully for 4.7?) that merge request is looked at by qt again 
and eventually merged in, since the merge request was created in 4.5 and 
hasn't been updated with any code but my own.
