Hi,

I am the initial author of Gitorious, and I have to say it's pretty
awesome you guys are considering adapting it to your needs. And for
what it's worth, those needs seem to fit in fairly good with how I see
Gitorious evolve, so I'm obviously interested in helping out Patrick
and friends, if this becomes a reality.

There already is such a thing, for logged in users. It's called "clone
repository", like git itself I kind of think that "fork" is a word
that carries some heavy implications for some people, that's why
Gitorious use the term "clone" or "public clone".

That's also there already (for logged in users), but it's currently
generated on the fly so it can be a bit heavy for big repositories. I
have a todo item to deal with that outside the application framework,
and making it cache the generated tarball.
