That's the same about git, except that you write external programs.
Everything you need is provided in the form of "plumbing" commands.
I prefer that to writing plugins, because I can do it in whichever
language I prefer (I've done Perl, Thomas Z. has done an entirely new
front-end with QtCore). And it doesn't require me to write a plugin or
program for a simple task with the internals.
