It sounds better then it is; the actual database is the only thing that is 
hardlinked, the source files themselves can not be (due to your editor 
respecting the hardlink). So for a repo like KOffice which is 160Mb 
of 'sourcefiles' each branch is at minimum that size. (in Darcs its even 
twice that).

As said earlier, in git branching is free.
