Hello KDE Team,
My name is Cătălin Soare, and I’m one of the organizers of OpenHack 2025 (https://openhack.ro), a 24-hour student hackathon this November at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest. We’re bringing together about 50 students and 20 mentors for a fast-paced, community-first building experience.
We admire KDE’s work advancing a powerful free desktop (Plasma), frameworks, and apps—guided by an open, welcoming community. Those values are an ideal model for our participants as they learn to build and contribute.
On a more personal note, I myself am using KDE Plasma 6 recently, and I have to say, I have no more desire of changing or ricing my desktop environment. I found Plasma capable of adapting to each and every user's needs and preferences, and in short, I really really love it.
Ways KDE could support OpenHack:
- Sponsorship to help with logistics and student prizes
- Swag (stickers, T-shirts, materials) for participants
- A mentor or judge, to help the participants when needed and to select the winning team
- Any other path you recommend to engage students with KDE and linux.
I'll attach here a general brief, outlining more information about our event. We'd be really happy to collaborate to bring this open-source spirit to our community here at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, of course tailor made for the KDE team.
Best regards,
Cătălin Soare
