Just want to point out that OpenSUSE has fixed the issue in their distro
already more than a year ago (see also comment #16).

Maybe those of you using distros without the patch should consider bugging your
distributors to include it. Point them to OpenSUSE and that they _have_ the
patch. 

Chances are that at some point the insight will percolate that it would be much
more efficient to include the patch upstream instead of having a copy of it in
every distribution. AFAICT rants in this bug report have gotten us nowhere and
are not very likely to get us anywhere in the future.
