I've also seen this, but I had initially attributed it to either my hacking
around with qt-copy, or not actually having any printers installed.

Using a clean qt-copy I get it consistently when trying to print from kwrite (I
haven't tried other apps yet).  Using a freshly compiled download of Qt 4.4.3 I
initially didn't get it but later did.  Using openSuse 11.1 Qt 4.4.3 packages I
haven't seen it at all (yet).

I have a vague recollection tzander mentioned somewhere about problems with
asserts being the root of the print problem in Qt 4.4.0?

Can you  confirm what qt you are using, and that you have real printers
configured?

I'll try a few variations on this tonight.
