For me the problem still exists.

I'm using KDE 3.5.5 (ubuntu package).
The version number of the package 'smbclient' is 3.0.22-1ubuntu4.

I can't believe the samba is the problem of this bug. As Thomas noted everything works fine if you are able to pass the configuration dialog (by creating a new printer).
The only annoying problem is that you can't change the interface only for an existing printer. In this case the configuration dialog doesn't work properly.
