I' d like to add a definition of KDE, that I wrote together some time ago.
Here it goes:

KDE is a desktop environment. KDE's compents are:
- - a development framework and devel apps for KDE-related software
- - documentation framework and documentation to its applications
- - l10n and i18n framework and l10n and i18n for its applications
- - the window manager
- - basic applications of a desktop
- - application sets of special importance to users, which ensure
a broad user base of KDE and propagate its usage

Just my 2 cents...

Greetings,
eva
