Thanks that worked a treat! :)

However, there is absolutely no chance of me, or indeed any new user finding 
that option!

Notifications as a whole are incredibly visible in KDE (which is a good 
thing), so I don't believe that it will be that unusual for someone to want 
this kind of functionality. I'd just like to try to make the option of 
clicking a notification to open Kmail message more accessible, and visible 
within Kmail.

Perhaps under 'configure Kmail' - would that be suitable?
