Attached are screenshots of what I see here for the mail attached in this 
report, with latest master and the pending patches. Apart from the white on 
white text due to my dark color scheme this looks correct and the same as with 
17.08.

I think it's unlikely that my local patches make the difference, this entire 
scenario is pretty well covered by rendertest.

Could you maybe check if you have remains of the older messageviewer still in 
your install dir, in particular the plugins? Cleaning that fixed a similar 
issue reported on IRC recently, although I don't really see how that could 
happen, the ABI changes should effectively prevent accidental mixing of 
elements of different versions.
