I saw this again and now have a basic idea what *might* happen. See:

I think akonadiserver may crash on exit, before even telling the mysqld 
process to quit.

I added some content of ~/.xsession-errors to the bug report.

Right now I have lots of other things to do, but I may look into the order 
akonadiserver tries to quit things. I bet it would first try to get rid of 
Akonadi processes, and *then* quit MySQL. And well… if it crashes on the 
attempt of getting rid of Akonadi processes, it won´t quit MySQL.

But even then an akonadictl start may *never* *ever* start a *second* copy 
of MySQL on the same database. Please just don´t do it. I bet there is 
some protection in MySQL itself regarding that, but I won´t rely on it for 
data consistency. I do think I lost the complete mysql database at least 
once due to this.
