regarding the PIM stack to which Akonadi belongs.

I am not sure but I think we currently don't have any particular collection
marked as the default addressbook.
We do have a mechanism for something like that, calles SpecialCollections, but
I think we currently use that for contacts.

Hmm, I don't think so, but the kpeople library might have such interfaces.
Any particular use case you are trying to solve?
