[Kde-pim] 4.10.2 experiences

Hi,

I updated to kontact 4.10.2 from Debian experimental this week. You might be
aware of most of this bugs, but maybe I found something new. All in all I was
not amused. :-(

- The migration did not work. Sorry. I did not keep any logs. I just deleted
my mail folders and config files and did a fresh setup.

- It happened that the "Check mail" button (and the corresponding menu items)
were greyed out. Why? There was no synchronisation running AFAIK.

- Georg already started the thread about mails that are advertised as new but
not shown in the message list.

- When editing the recipients fields in the mail composer, the cursor jumps to
the end of the field after each keypress.

- I have an annoying message in my composer: "You do not have the semantic
desktop system enabled. The following features will not work correctly: ...".
The configure button doesn't lead me to anything meaningful I could do. The
close button hides the message and I have no way to get the message back.

There are so many moving parts working together. It's hard even for me as a
"power user" to know what's going on. Maybe the following could help: Provide
a kind of status button in the status line (at the bottom) that could be
green/yellow/red. Clicking on this button will give me an overview about all
the moving parts: Is there a semantic desktop system? Is akonadi alright? Are
there errors in the database (MySQL/Postgres) log? ...?

- The progress indicator in the bottom right does not show anything if I press
F5 to update a mail folder. How should I know that the kmail (akonadi) did
look for new mail? There also isn't a message in the status line anymore that
there have not been any new messages.

- Deleting a folder does not give any immediate response that. The folder only
disappears after some seconds. Only the disc activity gave some kind of
response but it was that much that I was afraid it would eat all my mails.

- Sometimes I need to press F5 two times for new mails to be shown.

- I wanted to see, whether I'm actually running the most recent version of
Kontact. But googling for kmail did not lead me to any official site that would
tell me the most recent version number. Only the wikipedia site gave an
indication.

So it's free software, you're working hard and I've no time to help fixing the
bugs. And even with the above list I've not found a mail client that I'd like
more.

Regards,

Thomas Koch, http://www.koch.ro
