I hope you don't plan to copy the misfeature of Outlook/Exchange which 
kills all exceptions if you make a change to the whole event series 
(e.g. in Outlook it is impossible to change the end date of a recurring 
event without destroying all exceptions; OTOH, who needs past events?). 
:-)

Another feature that Outlook is missing (but that KOrganizer used to 
have) is the possibility to make changes to all future recurrences of an 
event, e.g. if the event was moved to another time slot. In Outlook the 
easiest way to achieve this is to delete the old event (because setting 
an end date on the event at the old time slot makes no sense due to the 
aforementioned shortcoming) and create a new one.
