[Kde-pim] Checking a collection's existence using remote ID

What is the best way for a resource to check the existence of a collection, given a remote ID (when the collection ID is not known)? The format of remote IDs for single file resources seems to have changed to include "file://" for local files, but some older collections use a simple file path, so the resource needs to find out which was actually used to create the resource.
