You can disable full sync per resources.
Even per folder.

Per resource: Settings->Configure KMail->Accounts, chose the local 
mixedmaildir account, Retrieval Options, disable "Include in Manual Mail 
Check".

Per folder: right click->Folder Properties->Retrieval tab and the sync 
options.
