[Kde-pim] kmail dispatcher agent is not remembering my SMTP password

i have a password that i enter as i start up Kontact, but it is not the 
password that the kmail dispatcher agent is forgetting... i don't know whether 
or not it is KWallet (although i believe i remember configuring it), but...

i have kwalletmanager installed, but when i type kwallet into a terminal, it 
says:

No command 'kwallet' found, did you mean:
 Command 'kwalletd' from package 'kde-runtime' (main)
kwallet: command not found

whether or not i have kwallet installed, it doesn't appear to make a 
difference...
