What about https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=185544#c106 ? Having kontact 
crashing every time one logs in and its last view was kmail does seem to be 
something worth considering. Part of the bug was fixed but not everything.

A workaround would be to not allow the config to save kmail as the last view.
