[Kde-pim] KMail2 takes ages to open folder with lots of msgs for the first time

I'm using KMail2 for a while. I always run the latest RPMs for OpenSUSE 11.3.
Today I could reproduce a strange behavior of KMail2. I had a folder which was filled with 25.000 messages. I hadn't opened it in KMail2 before. When I switched to that folder, KMail2 did some visible processing for some seconds before it froze visually taking one CPU core to 100% load.

After two hours I killed the process as I had to use my calendars! Then I tried to open the folder again. I haven't been that patient this times, I killed KMail2 (Kontact) after 30 min.
In fact, it was impossible to work with that folder. But fortunately my messages are in an IMAP account. I started Thunderbird in parallel and moved ~20.000 messages from that IMAP folder to a local folder. Then KMail2 could open the folder. It took some seconds, but it worked. Now I move the messages back using Thunderbird, and I check the folder with KMail2 from time to time. The application remains repsonsible.

Does somebody have an idea why KMail2 goes crazy with a folder containing some thousands of messages? I remember a similar problem with another folder some weeks ago, but I didn't care for it in detail then. This time I looked at it more in detail.
Interestingly there was no output during the 100% load phase neither in akonadi (I started the server manually and watched the output) or in KMail2 (Kontact) when started from a console.
It's impossible to know if the processing makes any progress or if an endless loop has been entered.

Anyway, I thought I'd let you know about it. Although I'm aware of a workaround, other people could be very disappointed if they couldn't open a folder anymore.
