I've committed the unit test framework, so we'll need to create more tests 
when adding the additional filterpipeline to monitor to make sure it's 
right.

I might get a chance later to update the patch with tests.

ChangeRecorder may also need similar tests because it overrides some virtual 
methods changing behaviour.
