So it is somehow related to the recipients key, as signing is an action with 
your key, encrypting an action with recpipients key....

Ever tried to encrypt a text file with the recipients key on command line? 
Maybe there is a delay or at least a message of gpg that might helpful...

BTW: As verifying a signature is something about the senders key - is there a 
delay when you get signed messages and try to read them?
