[Kde-pim] akonadi won't connect to external mysql server

OK, that did it! I am not a DBA but I issued "CREATE DATABASE AKONADI" in 
mysql, restarted akonadi and everything leapt into life. So I guess the 
question is, why cannot akonadi create the database. I have lots of 
applications using my mysql server, so I am confident it is not the problem,
