[Kde-pim] setting up akonadi

I am on the same type of system (but using sources) and I didn't have to set a 
path to mysqld.

Maybe a packaging problem?
In which case you'll probably find better help on debian-kde (Debian's 
mailinglist server).

Can you check if the akonadi-server package contains the file 
mysql-global.conf?
